Community Engagement and Legal Information Officer

Professional Background

Daniela Catalina Jiménez-Montero, MSc, is a feminist economist with extensive experience in social research, public policy, and international and community cooperation across Europe and Latin America. Her work is grounded in an intersectional feminist perspective, focusing on care systems, gender equality, migration, and LGBTIQA+ rights. She holds a BA and MSc in Development Economics from the Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, as well as an MSc in Gender, Politics and International Relations from University College Dublin. Daniela brings a strong analytical and advocacy-driven approach to addressing complex social challenges.

Connection to Africa Centre

Daniela was inspired to join Africa Solidarity Centre Ireland by its humanist, Ubuntu-centred philosophy of “I am because we are,” particularly in a global context shaped by rising inequality, anti-migrant sentiment, and systemic injustice. In her role as Community Engagement and Legal Information Officer, she represents the organisation across community and institutional platforms. She supports asylum seekers by providing accessible information on international protection and integration, applying a human rights-based and gender-sensitive approach. Her work focuses on advancing inclusion and improving outcomes for individuals facing intersectional vulnerabilities.

Personal Touch

Originally from Costa Rica, Daniela is a committed feminist activist with a strong belief in collective empowerment as a driver of social transformation. She made history by producing the first feminist economics thesis at her university and has since continued to champion gender equity and social justice. Daniela enjoys kickboxing and remains deeply passionate about advocating for women, migrants, workers, and the LGBTIQA+ community, viewing this work as both purposeful and transformative.
